Reliable internet is an essential part of living in The Homestead — whether for work, school, streaming, or staying connected. Because of our rural setting and large acreage lots, service availability and performance can vary by location within the neighborhood.

🌐 Available Providers

📶 Spectrum (Charter Communications)

Spectrum is currently the most widely available provider in The Homestead and is the default choice for many residents.

What to Expect:

  • Download speeds up to ~1 Gbps (depending on plan)
  • Upload speeds typically much lower (often ~20–40 Mbps)
  • Generally stable service, though outages can occur during severe weather

Notes:

  • Spectrum’s “1 Gig” service is not symmetrical (upload ≠ download)
  • Some residents use multiple connections for redundancy or increased bandwidth

📡 AT&T Internet

AT&T service availability is limited within The Homestead.

What to Expect:

  • Maximum available speeds are typically up to ~25 Mbps downstream
  • Fiber is not available within the neighborhood at this time
  • Performance may not meet modern needs for streaming, remote work, or multiple users

Recommendation:
AT&T may be a fallback option in some cases, but most residents rely on Spectrum or alternative solutions.

📶 T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Some residents use T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet as an alternative or backup connection.

What to Expect:

  • Wireless (no cable required)
  • Performance varies depending on signal strength and tower congestion
  • Can be a good supplemental or backup option

🛰️ Starlink (Satellite Internet)

Starlink is an option for residents seeking satellite-based internet service.

What to Expect:

  • Requires installation of a satellite dish with clear sky visibility
  • Speeds can be competitive, but may vary based on network demand
  • Higher upfront equipment cost

Considerations:

  • May be useful where other options are limited
  • Performance can fluctuate during peak usage times

⚖️ Choosing the Right Setup

Because of variability in service and the importance of connectivity, many residents take a practical approach:

✔️ Single Provider (Most Common)

  • Spectrum only
  • Suitable for general household use

✔️ Dual-Connection Setup (Advanced / Work-from-Home)

Some residents implement dual-WAN setups to improve reliability and performance.

This typically involves:

  • Two separate internet connections (e.g., Spectrum + 5G)
  • A capable router that can manage both connections

Common approach in The Homestead:

  • Use of Ubiquiti (UniFi) gateways/routers to enable one of the following:
    • Load balancing (use both connections simultaneously). This is a good option if both WAN connections have unlimited data usage. 
    • Automatic failover (switch if one connection drops). This is the preferred configuration when using 5G as a secondary WAN connection, as 5G data usage is typically not unlimited.

Benefits:

  • Increased uptime and reliability
  • Better performance for households with high bandwidth needs
  • Seamless experience during outages

📶 Improving Wi-Fi Coverage at Home

Many connectivity issues in The Homestead are not caused by the internet provider — but by limited Wi-Fi coverage inside the home or across the property.

Because homes and lots here are larger, a single router is often not enough to provide reliable coverage — especially for outdoor areas like patios, pool equipment, or detached structures.
